This is a very fine World War II Army Air Corps Type II Flight Surgeon's wing that is in excellent condition. The wing is full size and measures 3 inches from wing tip to wing tip. It is well struck and exhibits sharp detail. The caduceus is applied as a separate piece to the center of the wing.
The reverse is marked,'STERLING' in a circular depression in the center and'GEMSCO' within their wreath logo on the reverse of the left wing. This is very lightly stamped but can be better seen with a glass. The swing pin and roller locking catch are both present and remain fully functional. The Type II flight surgeon's wings were not gilt finished, rather they were plain sterling. This wing is with an attractive, light age toned patina. An exceptionally fine example in excellent, undamaged condition.
