ARMY AIR CORPS AIR CREW SURVIVAL KNIFE. Beginning in 1934 the U. Army Air Corps started including a large knife - sometimes referred to as a "small machete" - in the bail-out kits of its aircraft. Was attacked at Pearl Harbor and entered WWII, the need for aircraft, and therefore bail-out kits, increased exponentially and the Army Air Corps began to acquire versions of this large knife from Case, Kinfolks, and Western in addition to its original supplier, Collins. Consequently, few remain in their original condition and those which do are rare.
This Western is one of the rare exceptions. As shown by the photos, its is in excellent unsharpened or better condition and comes with its original sheath in the same condition.
