This is an original WWII US ARMY AIR CORP A-2 FLIGHT JACKET , size 38 , worn by a service man with the name of Duke this name is stenciled in the place where a name tag would be, on the left side of the jacket. The jacket does not have any patches that would tell us the unit from the Army Air Corp that Duke was assigned to during the war. W33-038 AC-1755 (11631) , that according to US Army Corps records and the label was assigned to J. This particular Dec-43 contract was for the manufacture of 35,000 A-2 Flight Jackets.
The Jacket is in excellent condition for its age. It shows some wear (small loss of color) mostly on the outside edge of its right sleevethe jacket probably rubbed off against the wall of a closet for a long time. The material (leather), however, is in excellent condition, without any rips, tears or stains.
The leather is still soft on the body of the jacket, and a little stiffer on its sleeves, with a uniform brown patinated color. Talon zipper in good working order. The lining is also in excellent condition, without any rips or tears that are common on jackets of this time period.The waistband is also in very good condition, with just a couple of small holes on the front left side of the jacket. The right sleeve cuff is in excellent condition. The left sleeve cuff, however, is damaged with some rips and tears.
Overall, with the exception of the left cuff, the jacket, overall, is in excellent condition, and a great example of WWII fighter pilot A-2 leather jacket that will stand out in your WWII display, but, that is also in wearable condition.
