This is an original WWII US ARMY AIR CORP A-2 FLIGHT JACKET, size 40, worn by Anderson, l. IV his name written on the lining on the right side of the jacket. Anderson belonged to the 82. Bomb Group, based on the multiple piece construction, hand painted leather patch, 5 ¾ inches in circumference, on the left side of the jacket.It has a multiple piece construction, hand-painted, leather CBI patch on the left sleeve. W535-AC-21996, that according to US Army Corps records was assigned to THE AERO LEATHER CLOTHING CO (MFR label not legible on the label), from Beacon, NY, on 14 OCT 41.
This particular contract was for the manufacture of 25,000 A-2 Flight Jackets. The Jacket is in excellent condition for its age.It shows gently handled wear. The leather is whole and even colored on the entire jacket. It is better preserved that most samples of this type. The leather is still soft throughout with a perfect brown color. Talon zipper, with the left side missing 1.5 inches of its teeth on the bottom of its left side.
The lining is in great condition with the exception of a of rip area in the neck. The original waistband is in good condition, as well as the cuffs that have a couple of pulls and snags, and a couple of small rips that have been repaired. Overall, this is an excellent example of WWII fighter pilot A-2 leather jacket that will stand out in your WWII display, but, that is also in wearable condition.
