Interesting lot of items presumably associated with a WWII. Flight officer and service pilot, including a photo of the officer, ribbon bar, sweetheart pin, flight officer rank insignia, and.
Army Air Corps officer collar/branch insignia. Also included in this lot are photos of an elderly woman and a young man. The relationship between the individuals in these photos is unknown, although it's possible they are family members. The photos of the elderly woman and young man were included in the picture frame behind the photo of the officer. These items are from an estate sale, and I presume they are all associated with the officer in the photo, but I can't guarantee it.The photos appear to be in fair to good vintage condition with signs of age and wear, such as fading, yellowing, scratches, scrapes, abrasions, folds, creases, wrinkles, cracking, discoloration, stray marks, "waviness, " stains that appear to be from water damage, and wear on the corners and along the edges, including folds, creases, crinkles, bends, and small tears. Highlights of the photo of the flight officer include his service pilot wings, China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater patch, flight officer rank insignia, Air Transport Command distinctive unit insignia, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal, and commissioned officer visor cap badge i. Flight officers were equivalent to warrant officers and also wore distinctive warrant officer visor cap badges; perhaps both types were commonly worn?
The photos measure approximately 5" x 7". The photo of the elderly woman measures approximately 4" x 5" and is attached to a 5" x 7" matte. The metal frame measures approximately 5" x 7" and. Appears to be in good used condition with. Signs of age and wear, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, dents, discoloration, oxidation, and some loss of finish.
The cardboard backing is intact and has a working built-in stand. Appears to be in fair used condition with. Signs of age and wear, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, folds, creases, wrinkles, stray marks, stains, and wear on the corners and along the edges, including folds, creases, crinkles, and bends. It has also lost much of its velvet covering. The glass is intact but there are considerable nicks and chips on the corners and along the edges.
The ribbon bar measures approximately 3/8" x 4 3/16", has a pinback with a roll locking pin catch, and includes ribbons for the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Ribbons appear to be in good vintage condition with signs of age and wear, such as fading, scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, folds, bends, creases, stray marks, and some minor stains. The metal ribbon bar and pinback mechanism appear to have discoloration, oxidation, and rust.
Army Air Corps and flight officer. Has a pinback and measures approximately 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" high. The pin is missing from the pinback mechanism. The sweetheart pin is marked "STERLING" with what appears to be GK Co.
Apart from the missing pin, the sweetheart pin appears to be in good used condition with. Signs of age and wear, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, discoloration, oxidation, and some loss of finish.
The flight officer rank insignia are not a matching pair; one has a pinback and the other has a clutch back. Both rank insignia are unmarked and measure approximately 3/8" x 1". The flight officer rank insignia appear to be in "good minus" used condition with.
The blue enamel on the clutch back rank insignia appears to have some crazing. Are not a matching pair; one is unmarked and the other is marked ACID TEST.Insignia have clutch backs and measure approximately 3/4" x 1 1/8". Insignia appear to be in "good minus" to good used condition with.
Signs of age and wear, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, discoloration, oxidation especially on one of the pins and clutches of the unmarked collar/branch. And some loss of finish. Please review photos carefully, as they constitute part of the description.
