WW2 E3A Army Air Corp Pilot Navy First Aid Survival Emergency Kit Flask Tape Lid
I did some research and found that this is known as the World War II E-3A "Tape Lid" Survival Kit, sometimes referred to as "Sustenance Kit" or "Survival Flask". It was called the "Tape Lid" because the top of the flask was secured by a piece of tape. You would peel the tape off then take the entire lid off of the flask so you could empty the contents and then use it for storing water you would purify (with tablets supplied in the kit). This is the early version of the flask without the locking wire bail. The list of contents printed on the outside of the flask is still clear and legible and the kit appears to contain most of its original contents. The chocolate bar has disintegrated into powder and become dispersed throughout the flask. These kits seem to be hard to find and would be a very impressive addition to any WW2 Survival or Pilots collection.
