Vintage Army Air Corps Fairchild A-10 Sighting Mechanism WWII Sextant in Wood Case. Here is a nice Fairchild A-10 land/air sextant for WWII for your collection or decor needs. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! This piece came from the collection of the Patapsco River Power Squadron.

We have a number of pieces from this group's marine/nautical items that we will be listing separately for sale in our online stores over the next few days. We will post the listing #s here as those items become available. The sextant was made by the Fairchild Corporation of NY. Has the serial number of AF42-16886 on the case.

See a serial number of 13418 on the body of the sextant Rubber eye piece has broken down over the years and only part of it is still there. Saying the piece is non-operational as have no idea how one is to use it. Also has what appears to be the initials ZI and 0213 on the sextant body.

Not sure if the ZI stands for Zeuss Industries whom was known for making microscopes back in the day. Has both the base and lid to the sextant case. Lid still attached to the base by the hinges. Not sure if the serial numbers on the case and sextant are supposed to match, s.

O, representing that the sextant and case are not matching. Moderate finish loss to the case.

No splits, cracks, missing pieces or repairs with exception of split horizontally across the front of the case by the receiver latches. The sextant is 5-7/8" across, by 6-1/8" tall, by 4.5 wide.

There are a couple of paper disks in the case, a lighting mechanism (no batteries or bulb, clean inside) and another lens. The wood case is 5-5/8" tall, by 9-1/16" across, by 9-1/8 wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.

Some interesting information about the United State Power Squadrons. Franklin Delano Roosevelt played an integral part in growing this organization after WWI. It is the largest U. Non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three U.

Presidents for its civic contributions. Its official publication is The Ensign magazine. There are many educational opportunities available within the United States Power Squadrons. The basic course meets the requirements set forth by NASBLA. The United States Power Squadrons offer courses in advanced navigation using modern equipment such as GPS and Radar. Courses are even offered in celestial navigation. One critical activity of the United States Power Squadrons is Vessel Safety Check. A vessel safety check is provided at no charge and is not a law enforcement boarding.

If the boat carries the proper equipment, a sticker will be awarded to display on the vessel. A parallel organization operates in Canada under the name Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS) in English and Escadrilles canadiennes de plaisance (ECP) in French.
