US Army Air Corps P-38 WWII ID Recognition Spotter Model Airplane

This is an original WWII US Airplane identification / recognition model made from cellulose acetate by the Cruver Mfg. I have had it for about 30 years on display and it is pretty much like I found it at a Seattle area toy show. The model is a 1/72nd scale replica, and measures 8 1/8 x 5 3/4 inches It is marked with the type of plane on the bottom, along with the date of production and. The ability of servicemen to identify "friend or foe" in an instant was crucial to combat survival and the subject of recognition was taught in just about every World War II service school.

Trained spotters were important to the war effort and to aid them 1:72 scale plastic models were made. This model is an increasingly rare collector's item, perfect for military history enthusiasts, aviation collectors, or those specializing in WWII memorabilia.
